Vacanze Toscane offers its clients canoe excursions on the Ombrone river organized by a leading agency in the sector.

Excursions are mainly carried out during Spring-Summer period and both adults and children can participate.

Canoe excursions on the Ombrone are performed using Canadian canoes joined together (catamaran type) to give greater stability and safety and to make them practically unsinkable. The canoes can be used both by experts and no-experts and even by those who can not swim. Life jackets will be provided to all the participants.

The canoe trip starts every day at 9.30 am and 4.00 pm when a minimum of 4 people is reached.

Boarding is near Alberese, you will sail on the Ombrone river crossing Maremma Natural Park. The vegetation on the banks of the river is varied: tall trees such as alders, poplers, willows and elms. Going down the river you can see the remains of an ancient Roman bridge called “Il ponte del Diavolo” (Devil Bridge).

Then the vegetation changes and the tall trees are replaced by the typical brush of Maremma: here it is easy to see horses and cattle in the wild. Frequently you also come across wild animals such as foxes, badgers, porcupines and wild boars.

Once you arrive at “Torre Trappola”, which is about 3km from the sea, the river widens and the banks lower, and the vegetation changes again: here bushes of mastic and tamarisk plants grow. The land is semi-submerged by water during winter and becomes dry in summer.
